September saw us celebrate National Fibromyalgia Awareness Week from the 3rd till the 10th of September, and we had a great awareness week this year, with FMAUK saying it was one of the most vocal awareness weeks online!
There was lots of different things to get involved with online this year, including a week long photo challenge, adding a ‘twibbon’ to your social media profile picture, joining in the Thunderclap campaign which sent out a mass message from FMAUK across social media, and all week FMAUK were releasing stories from people living with Fibromyalgia on their website and across their social media.
It really was a busy and fantastic week raising awareness!
We also had articles printed in a local paper (The News Guardian) which you can read here: News Guardian article
and on the BBC website which you can read here: BBC article
As well as the social media campaign our support group also held a fundraising Coffee Afternoon where we raised £117.74 for FMAUK! Group members, their family and friends and members of the public were all invited to join us and we enjoyed a couple of hours of cuppas, cake and chats! We also had a PowerPoint presentation with facts about Fibromyalgia and information on current research, which members have said helped their family members understand what they were going through a bit more. We also held a cake competition that had a Fibromyalgia theme, and oh my goodness, the entries were quite frankly AMAZING!
Malcom won the cake competition with his entry of a beautiful, big square cake with the FMAUK logo on it – he also told me this was the first time he had made a cake this size!
Well done Malcolm!
We also welcomed Elvis along to the Fibromyalgia Awareness Week coffee afternoon, he was the judge of the cake competition for us. Elvis ran the Great North Run the very next day to raise money for our support group! So far in online donations alone we’ve raised £435 which is astounding! Thank you all so much for your donations they will make a massive difference to our group! Elvis ran the GNR in 2hours and 30mintues – an impressive time! Thank you SO much Elvis, you are an amazing person and we’re all so grateful and appreciate for all of your efforts to help our support group – you are an honourary fibro warrior! 💜
What a brilliant way to end our National Fibromyalgia Awareness Week!
Thank you all for your involvement!
