So, I haven’t update the blog in a few months now, unfortunately I just haven’t been well enough and I’ve had a lot going on with assessments and more, but I’m finding time now to update the blog on some things that we’ve been up to over the past few months.
Our ten year anniversary was back in April, and it was an amazing and busy day! We had a lot of members, both old and new and it was so lovely to see familiar, as well as new, faces! We even had members from different support groups in the North East come to celebrate with us. Thank you all for making it a special couple of hours for us!
We welcomed along a number of different businesses and charities to offer their support and advice to members, plus Yve was on hand selling her amazing creations, and Theresa and Barbara were selling items they had made to help make money for the group too. It was a genuinely great day, extremely busy (and I’m so sorry if I didn’t get to speak to everyone on the day!) but absolutely fantastic and it was all down to our wonderful members! We were also gifted an amazing number of incredible items for our special anniversary raffle, from hotel stays, to amazing art work, to cinema trips, to natural pain relief rub, to beautiful body/bath oils, to handmade gifts to even more… it really made the day even more special!
We had the brilliant Driftwood Float Spa, based in Heaton they have a flotation tank which has Epsom salts in for a heavenly floatation sensation! They were genuinely lovely lads and even gave us a voucher for our anniversary raffle which was won by Yve who thoroughly enjoyed her float! For more info on what they do and why they do it you can find their website here: Driftwood Float Spa website
We also had Moving Forward who are a charity that provide help and support for people struggling with mental ill health with the aim of helping people regain skills, confidence, and self-belief. They provide this help for people in Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside. From finding out about this charity I know a few people have used their services and have gained new skills and confidence in themselves! For more info on Moving Forward you cna find their website here: Moving Forward Website
We also welcomed the wonderful Mindful Therapies, based in Newcastle City Centre, and offer counselling, mindfulness courses, workshops and have lots of different events! They are a not for profit organisation who make their courses as accessible as possible with donation based counselling. For more information on mindfulness, how to join in with their courses, and Mindful Therapies you can find their website here: Mindful Therapies website
We finally had along Disability North who have been so kind to have been guest speakers for our group in the past. They’re a charity based at The Dene Centre, Castle Farm Road. Disability North provide a range of information, advice and support services relating to all aspects of disability. Their quality advice and support is free, confidential and impartial. Disability North regularly deliver a range of free informative group workshops on accessing welfare benefits, completing PIP forms, support for direct payments users and their personal assistants and more.
