Hi everyone,
It’s been brought to my attention that on Monday 21st your travel to the support group meeting may be disturbed/delayed due to road works/road closure under the metro bridge on killingworth road (A189)/metro closure & bus replacements. So I’ve tried to get all the info you’ll need to make an informed decision about how best to get to The Oxford Centre, Longbenton, NE12 8LT.

If you are getting the metro, please be aware that there will be no trains running between Souh Gosforth and Shiremoor in both directions.

Phase 2 Saturday 12 August – Saturday 2 September: No trains will run in either direction between South Gosforth and Shiremoor.  Replacement buses, service 900, will call at, or close to all stations between South Gosforth and Shiremoor (begins and ends at Regent Centre).

Your journey will take longer than usual so please plan in advance especially if transferring between more than one mode of transport and allow extra travelling time. If you’d like some help planning your journey call 0191 20 20 747  (open 8.00am – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday) or use the Live Travel Map.  Trains will be running to all other areas but may not be to usual timetable so please check times before travelling.

You’ll find replacement bus timetables, replacement bus stop location maps, a Frequently Asked Questions document and a handy major line closure information leaflet below.

Services between South Gosforth and Shiremoor will resume on Sunday 3 September.

Please find below links to information on the replacement bus services and Frequently Asked Questions – which includes accessibility info.

If you are driving to The Oxford Centre, the best route to take would be to avoid the A189 as there is no access under the Killingworth Metro Bridge and Salters Road bridge is also closed to vehicles. Please look at the image below to see the alternative route into The Oxford Centre (by diving past Four Lane Ends metro, and turning into Longbenton estate from there)

Please find more info on the Newcastle City Council website here: Newcastle City Council – Road Closure

Due to the closure of the A189 Killingworth Road, the signalised junction at Four Lane Ends becomes extremely congested at peak times.  If you are driving to Newcastle from Killingworth or to the north of Killingworth a less congested route would be via the A1056 Sandy Lane and then on to either the A1 or B1318, depending on your final destination.  If you are driving from north of the A19  on the A189 it would probably be quicker to take the A19 to the A1 junction at Seaton Burn and come into Newcastle via the A167 or A695 depending on your final destination.

(Info from the council website)

Hopefully this all makes sense and isn’t too off putting for you all!
See you Monday!
